John Bury John Bury is Head of Planning with the City of Edinburgh Council where he is responsible for the delivery of Edinburgh's planning and development activities, including those in its priority areas such as the City Centre and Waterfront. He is also responsible for the management of the City's built and natural environment, including its World Heritage Site. He has helped to shape a programme of culture change within the Planning Service to implement the requirements of the new Scottish Planning Act. This has included a stronger emphasis on the role of stakeholders in the planning process and customer care.

Between 1978 and 2008, John worked with Glasgow City Council, latterly as Head of Planning Services. In addition to managing the Council's Planning Service, he was responsible for leading the Council's regeneration activities on the River Clyde and in the City Centre, as well as establishing the Council's Greenspace project and City Heritage Trust.

John is a member, and former Chair, of the Heads of Planning Scotland and a member of its Professional Development Committee. He is a member of the One Scotland Gazetteer Board and the Central Scotland Greenspace Network Board.
